Are you using Facebook as a part of your social media presence? If so, are you looking to make your presence a bit more efficient and manageable? Then you need to start scheduling your posts out on Facebook! Rather than having to login to Facebook multiple times a week to make posts to your Page, Facebook has a wonderful feature for Facebook Pages that allows you to schedule out your posts. This is an important feature to take advantage of because it not only makes managing your Page more efficient, it ensures that you post to your Page during optimal days of the week and times of the day. Using this feature you’ll be able to sit down one day a week for an hour or so and schedule out all of your Facebook posts in one sitting! Then you just need to login to Facebook for a few minutes each day to monitor your page. You’ll find that this is more efficient and more manageable.
As you may know, there are lots of tools out there that help you to schedule out and manage your social media posts, such as Buffer and Hootsuite, but for Facebook I recommend that you schedule and manage your posts within Facebook itself. Below I outline how you can use Facebook to determine the optimal times to make posts to your Page, and then schedule out posts during those days of the week and times of the day.
What Day of the Week and Time of Day to Schedule Your Facebook Post
One of the reasons that I recommend you schedule out your Facebook posts within Facebook itself using the schedule feature rather than through a tool like Buffer is because within Facebook itself you get to see the optimal days of the week and times of the day to post to your Page. Note that in order to take advantage of this feature your Page at least 30 people need to have liked your Page. When you have over 30 Likes, Facebook automatically monitors your Facebook Page audience using Page Insights. With Insights you can see when your audience is most active on Facebook so that you can be sure to post to your Page at the times your audience is actually online. It’s very important to take advantage of this feature because space in the Facebook News Feed is very competitive, especially for Pages, so you need to post during the times when your audience is online and most likely to see your post right away.
To see when your Fans are online navigate to your Facebook Page and click on the tab at the top of your page, right about your Cover Image, labeled ‘Insights.’ Personally I like to right-click this tab so that it opens in a new window so that I have my Page open in one window, and can then cross-reference Insights in another window making it easier to go back and forth between the two. Now that you’re in Insights, you’ll see that there are several other options to select just below Insights. Click on ‘Posts’ and this is what you’ll see:
You can see based on the bar graph at the top listing the days of the week that the best days of the week for me to post would Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and especially Friday because these are the days of the week when the highest number of my fans are online. Note that these are just estimates based on how your Fans behaved in the last week, and that this data may change from week to week. If it’s Monday morning and I’m sitting down scheduling out my posts for the week and I know I want to make a post on Tuesday, how do I find out what time of day is best to post on Tuesday? If I hover my mouse over the bar in the bar graph that says Tuesday, I’ll see this:
Based on what I’m seeing here I know that if I schedule my post for Tuesday at 12pm the highest likely number of my fans will see my post. Knowing this, I can navigate back to my Facebook Page, write a post, and schedule it out for Tuesday at 12:00 pm.
How to Schedule a Post on Facebook
Once you know the date and time of the post you’d like to make to your Page, scheduling out the post is actually pretty easy! The first thing you’ll need to do is navigate to your Facebook Page. Put your cursor in the status update box where it says, “What have you been up to?” and write out the post that you would like to make so that it’s all ready to go. Rather than hitting ‘Post’ to post to your Page immediately, navigate to the arrow just to the right of ‘Post’ inside that same blue button. This is what you’ll see:
Select ‘Schedule Post’ and then select the date and time you’d like to make your post:
Hit schedule and your post will automatically be posted to your Page at the date and time you specified. Need to make edits to your post? No problem! After you’ve scheduled a post a new box will appear in your Timeline that looks likes this:
Just click on “See posts” and you’ll be able to see and make edits to the posts you’ve scheduled out.
That’s it! You now know how to determine the best times to make posts to your Page, and schedule them all out in one sitting. I usually sit down at the beginning of my week for an hour or so and schedule out all of my Facebook posts for the week, then I just check in here and there throughout the week and make sure everything is going smoothly. Give this method a try and let me know what you think! If you have other ways of managing your Facebook Page efficiently please share them in the comments below.
